The idea of the design house Wazawazi was inspired by desire to curate the concept of African luxury matched by a socio-economic need for job creation of the continent. The rest of the world often a times has a limited idea of who a modern day African is, and what Africa looks like. Wazawazi is telling our African story. Wazawazi has thus mobilized untapped creative energies into productive industries, working with, training and employing talented youth to create our luxury bags. Every bag carries with it the story of a progressive African crafting their destiny. It carries the hopes and dream of not only the artisan that creates it, but their entire family that looks to them to hold them too. It also speaks to the rapidly progressive evolution of the unique African continent. The brand is an ethical employer providing sustainable jobs, carried out in a good and safe workshop, paying fair wages to the team while maintaining fewer than government recommended working week. The Wazawazi family has grown from one employee in a residential house spare room, to a fully fledged workshop with a women led workforce, accounting for 50% of the inhouse skilled workforce.
