About Architectural Association of Kenya
Organization Profile
Established in 1967, the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) is Kenya’s apex association comprising over 5,000 professional practitioners in the Built and Natural environments. AAK serves as an umbrella association encompassing eight distinct professions, including Architects, Town Planners, Quantity Surveyors, Engineers, Landscape Architects, Environmental Design Consultants, Interior Designers, and Construction Project Managers. The association brings together professionals in the national and county governments, civil society, the private sector, and academia. AAK also plays a pivotal role by linking professionals and stakeholders in the wider construction industry - including policymakers, manufacturers, real estate developers, financial institutions, and other entities. AAK is committed to supporting the advancement of Kenya’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) as a signatory to the Paris Agreement. It is estimated that by 2050, half of the country’s population will reside in urban areas. Consequently, the construction industry is expected to experience sustained growth to meet the ever-increasing demand. Through its robust research and advocacy division, AAK curates projects designed to revolutionize the construction industry and minimize its contribution to climate change. One such notable initiative is the Safari Green Building Index, a National Rating System suitable for all types of buildings in the different climatic zones in Kenya
