For Kanjikomu Self Help Group, beekeeping is turning out to be a goldmine.
The group was one of the first to receive hives, harvesting kits via Wezesha project.
Kirinyaga farmers in commercial beekeeping have started reaping big from the venture, with one of the groups already selling its produce to Israel.
Beekeeping has been a boon to Kanjikomu Self Help Group as its 24 members spread the sweetness of honey far and wide.
Located at Kabare ward in Gichugu constituency, the group was one of the first 19 organisations to be equipped by Governor Anne Waiguru’s Wezesha project.
They received 456 bee hives and two honey harvesting kits.
Kanjokimu sold its first 200kg honey harvest at Sh200,000. The group is planning to start packaging its own product.
