
Kenya has launched a locally made smartphone factory in Athi River, Machakos county. President Dr. William Ruto presided over the smartphone assembling plant that is expected to create between 300 and 500 direct jobs and produce between 1.2 million and 1.4 million gadgets annually.
Following the inauguration of the East Africa Device Assembly Kenya Limited, located in Athi River, Kenyan consumers now can access reasonably priced locally assembled smartphones. This device assembly factory represents a collaboration between local Mobile Network Operators and international device manufacturers. The smartphones, which will be obtainable at Faiba stores, dealer outlets, Safaricom shops, and the Masoko online platform, will be available at a starting price of 7,499 shillings.
Speaking during the factory’s launch, Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa state that the launch of EADAK reaffirms the telecommunication giant’s belief in the power of connectivity to transform lives and drive economic progress. He emphasized that the partnership underscores the government’s relentless pursuit to expand 4G access and empower Kenyans through affordable, high-quality smartphones, create employment opportunities and grow the Kenyan economy.
