
Nairobi, February 27th, 2023: The Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA) has signed a Kenya Meat Expo 2023 cooperation and collaboration Memorandum of Understanding with Nation Media Group, Ministry of Agriculture & Livestock Development, State Department for Livestock Development and Kenya Meat, Gatsby Africa and Livestock Exporters Council and Retail Trade Association of Kenya ahead of the Kenya Meat Expo 2023 that is scheduled for May, 2023.
The Kenya Meat Expo was incepted in 2021 to consolidate producers, processors, retailers and other meat actors and consumers across the value chain to:
- Deepen awareness about the production and consumption of quality and safe meat.
- Maximize networking opportunities for the industry players across the
value chain.
- Provide thought-leadership on the industry's policies, innovation and
Partnerships.
- Provide an opportunity to strengthen existing partnerships while forging new ones around the meat industry.
- Spotlight the latest developments in the meat sector.
- Gain tools, insights, inspiration, and new ideas to differentiate unique.
products and services, reinforce marketing Return on Investment, increase sales and build customer loyalty.
Livestock accounts for 12 % of Kenya’s GDP and creates a livelihood for more than 10 million people mostly the pastoral communities. According to Meat End-Market Trends in Kenya study, the average Kenyan consumes about 15 Kilograms of meat annually. This strongly suggests that meat is an integral part of Kenyan’s diet hence the need for improving meat production across the value chain.
The Meat Expo will include different panel discussions where stake holders, investors and government officials will discuss possible solutions to the challenges that are experienced across the value chain. The challenges lie in the areas of production, processing, distribution, end market and aggregation finishing and trade.
Kenya’s position as the economic, logistical, commercial and tourist hub in East and Central Africa places her as an ideal investment destination. As the lead Agency representing Kenya in the Expo 2020 Dubai from rom 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022 in Dubai, Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency conducted a meat and meat products B2B with potential meat importers and investors.
‘ The meat value chain is a great employer and hence need to focus more on value addition and alternative markets. The Gulf Cooperation Council as an emerging frontier for Kenyan meat products has the potential to import value-added products as well as raw products much to the benefit of our meat farmers,’ says Floice Mukabana, the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency acting CEO.
Last year, Kuwait and Bahrain lifted the ban on meat imports from Kenya hence opening new markets for Kenya’s livestock and meat products.
