Swahili

• The Swahili people find significance in their art. They express themselves through creativity as well as through shape and function. This is seen through Swahili architecture and furniture. Swahili architecture is still evident in the coastal areas in places such as old Town, Gede Ruins, and Lamu. Modern buildings in the Coast have borrowed from this traditional Swahili style
• Their Expressive are is also seen in Swahili garments such as the Kanga. This is a rectangle piece of cloth reflecting on the Swahili culture often times containing famous quotes and Swahili Sayings.

• Swahili cuisinefavors spicy, flavourful dishes which take inspiration from both African and Middle Eastern cuisine. One of their primary staple ingredients is rice, which you will find in many traditional meals.

Mbeere

• They are known for their basket (ciondo) and rope (mikanda) making
• Oneof their notable musical instruments was a long and narrow cylindrical drum was made of wood cut from Mukaau tree using an axe. The top is covered with goat skin.
• Mbeere arts center on the verbal arts, song, and dance. Riddles, folktales, and proverbs are popular forms of creative expression

Waat

• They are considered to be One of Kenya’s indigenous hunters and gatherers
• The Waata translates to people of the bow as it was their most valuable tool in their hunting activities
• The Waata now make a living frommaking charcoal, supplying building poles
• They have been marginalized by the Oromo who they were a part of and therefore their culture is being pushed to extinction
